Poppy seeds are small and often severely crowded if seeded by hand in the outdoor garden. The plants are almost impossible to thin due to intertwining of the stems and growth is retarded to a large degree. I have found starting in pots and separating by about six inches when placed in the garden the blooms are prolific and large, also they are very attractive in a cultivated bed.Twelve plants will produce a litre or more of seed.All food seed is of the Papaver somniferum and bulk store seed is viable.
