Nine Yukon Gold potato plants were remaining after all the vegetation had died off. The average yield was 2.5 pounds per plant, which is low but the size and quality of the tubers is excellent. It has been a dry and relatively cold season. My normal yield for Yukon Gold is from 5 to 7 pounds, but conditions must be good.Seventeen pounds were placed in the cold room. First new potato harvested. Weight was 2 pounds. All the new tubers were within about six inches of the cut seed potato, and roughly on the same plane above the seed potato. The seed potato was still firm. They will remain in the ground for about six more weeks to mature. The quality is perfect. They were lightly scrubbed with a brush which removed the soil and the skin came off, then baked in a Dutch oven for one hour at 400F. My usual method of cooking potatoes.

Nineteen Yukon Gold tubers were planted at 14 inch centres in the row and the rows are 20 inches apart.Depth is about five inches in a trench, and the tubers are covered with about three inches of soil. Each tuber was marked with a wooden sick. No more fibre rods left. This facilitates digging, and established a focus point when watering using the Magic Water Wand. As the potatoes grow they will be hilled and mulch will be added. Expectation is six pounds per plant. These tubers were quality purchased seed potatoes.
