Your bread looks delicious, Durgan, and so easy to make. I might make the dough before going to bed, and bake it in the morning, although, the fermentation time will be longer, and the dough might fail. I'll let you know how the bread turns out.
Today I bought a bag of all purpose flour, Robin Hood, brand, 5 Kg bag for $5.99 minus the 15% seniors discount, at Zellers. Pretty good price. I also have whole wheat flour, that I might add to the batch.

Are you positive that the same walnut is being discussed? Black walnuts are almost impossible to crack without crushing the meat using the typical compression methods. Also after a reasonably successful crack, getting the meat out of the four quadrants is tedious. Hence my modified method.

Many thanks. The walnuts we were given were quite ripe - the hulls were mostly black and fairly disintegrated so they came off very easily.

I used a very low tech approach to cracking the shells. I put them in my worktable vise and cranked it a few turns while circling the nut with my index finger and thumb so that the pieces didn't drop on the floor. I was able to crack 20 nuts in about 1 minute.

The taste of "wild" walnuts is well worth the effort.

Hi there

I'd love to see your photos of growing luffas - but the link doesn't seem to work.

I tried growing some myself this year (in the South Okanagan), but by the time the female flowers emerged it was too late in the season for any fruit to form. Any tips?

Thanks - love your blog!

I am no expert on Delphiniums, since I only have the one. This year it has disappeared above ground, and I don't know whether it will bloom in 2011, but I can hope. It certainly gave me some viewing pleasure over the last five years. I do mulch it heavily with wood chips and periodically water, but nothing else.

Incidentally, my Journal site was hacked by some idiot, and all the links or many have not been replaced yet. I have about 190 to fix.

When I meet dull, dead minds, i take the exit. I do miss one or two posters, but that is the price that I have to pay. If I want censorship, I will read main stream media. If a person is out of line, the other posters will correct as required. Sort of a free market system.

Love your blog-look at it every day. Have made a few comments. I am
leaving town for about a month so will have all of your entries to look
forward to. Good luck with your gardening-luck probably isn't really
involved though.
